Country Music Hall of Famers Kenny Rogers and Kris Kristofferson are being honored by their home state with the Texas Medal of Arts awards.

The awards celebrate artists and entertainers from around the Lone Star State who embody the unique Texan culture and spread it around the world. The awards will be handed out February 21st and 22nd at a two-day event held at the University of Texas in Austin.


Rogers will be lauded with the Lifetime Achievement Award for a career that has made him one of the most successful crossover country stars in history, thanks to his signature song "The Gambler" and his duet with Dolly Parton, "Islands in the Stream."


Kristofferson will accept the show's Multimedia Award for his work as a singer, songwriter and actor. Kristofferson's movie roles include the Blade films and A Star Is Born with Barbra Streisand.

Rogers and Kristofferson joining a list of past honorees that includes Texas heroes Willie Nelson, ZZ Top, Clint Black and Lyle Lovett.

Other recipients this year include actresses Janine Turner and Jaclyn Smith, singer Yolanda Adams and journalist Scott Pelley.
